Surpose

The Master’s program in Vietnamese studies is an interdisciplinary academic program that aims to cultivate highly qualified experts, with exceptional Vietnamese language competency, who are also well-versed in Vietnamese culture, society, history and economy.

P Upon completion of this program, students are expected to be well-equipped with sufficient comprehensive and knowledge of Vietnam and to be qualified to teach or conduct research on Vietnamese studies in Vietnam and abroad, as well as to be well prepared to pursue a professional career in economic, social and cultural institutions or organizations related to Vietnam.

P The Master’s program in Vietnamese studies also provides students with necessary skills for teaching Vietnamese language to foreigners or Vietnamese people living abroad.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the entrance exam, one should be Vietnamese or a foreigner who hold a Bachelor degree in Vietnamese studies or in other social sciences and humanities disciplines (these applicants may be required to complete a supplementary course prior to the entrance exam).

Exemption from foreign language tests:

Foreign applicants may be exempted from the Vietnamese language test if:

-            The applicant has completed a Bachelor program in Vietnamese studies or in other social sciences disciplines or in some natural sciences disciplines where Vietnamese is the language of instruction.

-            The applicant holds a Bachelor degree in Vietnamese studies and have completed Vietnamese language courses equivalent to level B as a component of the Bachelor program.

-            The applicant holds a Certificate of Proficiency in Vietnamese language – level B, issued by University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City.

Graduation eligibility:

Students will be approved for completion of the Master’s program in Vietnamese studies upon fulfilling all of the followed criteria:

P For the Program I (graduation thesis is not required): Completion of at least 45 credits from the common courses module, the foundational coursesmodule and the major courses module (including compulsory and optional courses). Students must score 5 or higher in all modules.

P For the Program II (graduation thesis is required): Completion of at least 23 credits from the common courses module, the foundational courses module and the major courses module (including compulsory and optional courses). Students must score 5 or higher in all modules. Completion and successful defense of a graduation thesis. Thesis should be approved by the Thesis screening committee as having fulfilled all the requirements for a Master’s degree graduation thesis (12 credits).
